NFL Draft 2011: Aqib Talib's Arrest Could Change the Buccaneers' Draft Plans

Talib's Arrest Could Lead to A Big Hole In Bucs' Secondary

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had one set of priorities in mind when they went into their War Room for this year's draft. Now you can add another need to the list.

Talib has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in connection with an incident last week where he and his mother allegedly fired shots at his sisters' boyfriend.

The St. Petersburg times has a complete write up of the incident, and in it is a look at why Talib always is in trouble:

"Left in the trail of terror were frightened residents, spent shell casings and the fragmented football career of Buccaneers cornerback Aqib Talib.

"But this is not just a matter of a pro athlete struggling to break free of the hangers-on friends and bad influences he grew up with. In fact, Talib's history of responding violently to conflict may have been passed to him through the umbilical cord.

"After all, what lessons do you learn as a 10-year-old when your mom settles a dispute over $50 with a steak knife?"

Talib has been in trouble several times and the story mentions his attitude as being a problem to his development.

This is a very serious charge, and do not think for a moment this will all blow over before the 2011 season starts (assuming there is one).

The Buccaneers have to sit down now and evaluate whether or not Talib is worth keeping. Talib has promised to change before, but this latest incident shows nothing has changed. If the allegations against Talib are true, and Talib is denying involvement, it would have been a conscious decision on Talib's part to pick up the gun and fire.

The Buccaneers need help on the corners because not only does Talib's situation hurt the team, Ronde Barber is not getting any younger.

Expect the Buccaneers to draft a cornerback at some point in this year's draft.
