In their third meeting of the season, tonight’s game between the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers played out very similar to their previous two meetings. Both were hard-fought games that remained close to the end.
The difference in game three?
The 76ers won. After losing 101-102 and 80-84, the Sixers were able to get the upper hand in tonight’s game.
Early in the first, Boston held a 4-2 lead; it would be their last until the fourth. While Philly never broke the game open, they maintained the lead for the rest of the half. They went into the locker room ahead 49-45.
Spencer Hawes surprisingly lead the way for the Sixers in the first half, scoring 11.
Nenad Krstic continued his great play of late, leading all scorers with 14. Unfortunately, he wouldn’t hit another shot on the night.
Midway through the third, Philadelphia built their biggest lead of night, reaching double-digits at 63-53. Boston followed that up with a 13-3 run to tie the game at 66. The Celtics were unable to take a lead, and Philly finished the quarter ahead 72-68.
At the 8:18 mark of the final frame, Boston was finally able to regain the lead, 76-75. The two teams would swap leads until the final five minutes, when Philadelphia would take an 83-81 lead. A lead the Celtics were unable to erase.
In the final moments of the game, Kevin Garnett made a lay-up to get the Celtics within three, 86-83 with six seconds left. Confusion seemed to strike the “Green” as the Sixers in-bounded the ball and opted to not foul and allow the clock to run out. Philadelphia was victorious.
Hawes tied Elton Brand with 14, to lead the 76ers in scoring. Andre Iguodala was the player of the game, nearly dropping a triple-double with 13 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists.
Krstic finished with 16 and a season high 15 rebounds, his first double-double as a Celtic. The other half of the Kendrick Perkins trade, Jeff Green scored a game high 18 points in 11 minutes off the bench.
Ray Allen had a night to forget, having his worst game of the season. Allen scored only five points on 2-of-11 shooting. Kevin Garnett continued his off-shooting, going 5-of-13 for 14, with six rebounds, and five assists.
Paul Pierce only had 11. Rajon Rondo scored 12, but had just five assists.
The streak is over though, as Troy Murphy made his first field goal as a Celtic. Once again only playing two minutes, Murphy had a dunk in the second.
