NCAA Bracket 2011 Predictions: Kansas Has Easy Road to Final Four

The Kansas Jayhawks Get Relatively Easy Draw in Southwest Region

One thing that is always looked at closely is how tough certain regions are compared to others. Regions are never equal in the tournament, that's just now it works. Ohio State has a very tough draw, and Pittsburgh has a very easy draw.

As for Kansas, they could have done a lot worse. Along with Duke, their draw is somewhere in between the above; not overly easy, but certainly winnable. After a first-round matchup against Boston University, they will either face UNLV or Illinois. Kansas should have no trouble with either.

In the sweet sixteen, Kansas would likely face Louisville. Louisville knows how to harness talent, but they just don't strike me as a team that can go deep. This leads Kansas to the elite eight against Notre Dame or Purdue, easily the hardest matchup.

Can Kansas handle a team with a superstar? They already have in the regular season, but JaJuan Johnson and Ben Hansbrough of Purdue and Notre Dame, respectively, will not make any of these matchups easy.

On top of that, Kansas has struggled in the tournament in recent years with the clear exception of 2008. They have the opportunity with their raw talent to make it deep this year, and they have a good road to do it. That does not mean they will, of course; it just means they don't have an excuse if they are eliminated early.
