French Open 2011: Should We Be Shocked by Roger Federer's 2-0 Lead vs. Djokovic?

French Open 2011 Has Seen Roger Federer Take A Commanding Lead Against Novak Djokovic

Coming into the French Open, Roger Federer was almost an afterthought.

Now, after the first two sets of the semifinals, he has everyone's attention.

Federer has taken a commanding 2-0 lead over Novak Djokovic, and even though the latter has a lead in the third set, we shouldn't be shocked by the former champion's incredible performance in the early stages of the match.

Just because he had some shaky performances coming into the French Open, doesn't mean that he can't hit his stride on the big stage and play some incredible tennis.

Furthermore, did anyone think that Djokovic was going to win forever?

Sooner or later, he was going to have a match where he didn't play his best tennis, and when that happens against a veteran player like Federer, who knows how to take advantage of mistakes, you set yourself up for a long match.

If Federer wins this match, and it looks like he will, the funny thing is that people will be asking if he can beat Nadal. Only in sports could someone be looked at to win a tournament after being dismissed before it even started.

While Roger Federer isn't in the prime of his career, he has plenty of good tennis left in him, and he is proving a lot of people wrong today. It was foolish that people gave up on him, especially after all of the great play we've seen from him over the years.

Federer is such a cerebral athlete, and those brains and moxie can help make up for the speed and quickness he inevitably lost over the years.

Watching the former champion is like watching a clinic on how to be a tennis player.
