MLB Draft 2011: San Diego Padres Grab Oakland Native Joe Ross with No. 25 Pick

Padres Use No. 25 Pick in 2011 MLB Draft on Joe Ross

The 2011 MLB Draft is currently under way on MLB Network. Pick by pick, the future of each and every team is getting brighter and brighter. With a bit of luck, the players whose names are being called will develop into the superstars of tomorrow.

With the No. 10 pick in the draft, the San Diego Padres drafted line drive specialist Cory Spangenberg. With the No. 25 pick, they chose high school hurler Joe Ross.

The brother of Oakland A's righty Tyson Ross, Joe Ross is a lean right-hander with a fastball that can touch 96. The Oakland native also throws a power curve that could became a true out pitch if he can develop some consistency with it.

Unlike Spangenberg, Ross could be a tough sign for the Padres. He has a commitment to UCLA, and he just might make good on it given the fact that two UCLA pitchers went in the top three picks in this year's draft.

If Ross does sign with the Padres, chances are he's going to develop into a middle-of-the-rotation guy. Seeing as how they have Mat Latos and Casey Kelly waiting in the wings, the Padres should be fine with Ross' career outlook.
