Why Allen Iverson Needs to Return to the NBA and 76ers in 2011

Allen Iverson. The Answer. Arugably, pound for pound, the greatest player at six feet tall in NBA history.

This postseason we marvel at the heroics of one J.J. Barea, but watching him , we have to remind ourselves that Allen Iverson remains near or at the top of the list of greatest little men in the NBA.

Such a feat is quite rare these days with tall forwards such as LeBron James and Kevin Durant running the league.

Iverson's finest season, of course, was in 2001, when the whole world was watching in awe of the Sixers' shooting guard. They got off to a hot start; Iverson had a bevy of 50 point games and many other MVP performances.

That year, the Sixers went to the NBA Finals for the first time since 1983 and fell to the Los Angeles Lakers four games to one in the Finals.

Despite the loss, the Sixers had much to be proud of, the team sweeping many of the awards that year. Iverson won All Star MVP and League MVP, Aaron McKie was Sixth Man of the Year, Dikembe Mutumbo was Defensive Player of the Year, and Larry Brown was Coach of the Year.

Since the apex of Iverson's career, it has been quite the rollercoaster with his ending his Philly tenure in 2006, only to return breifly in 2009 before leaving for good in 2010 with stops in Denver, Detroit, and Memphis along the way.

Allen Iverson will always be a Sixer at heart, and here are five reasons why the NBA and the 76ers need the return of AI.
