"Fat Boy Slim" Chris Arreola to Fight Again Next Weekend

Former heavyweight title challenger “Nightmare” Chris Arreola is scheduled to fight Kendrick Releford in a 10-round bout May 27 at the Reno Events Center in Nevada.

The announced contest is surprising because a slimmer Arreola (31-2, 27 KOs) just knocked the iconic Nagy Aguilera onto Queer Street in the third round on May 14

"The key is to keep him active," Arreola trainer Henry Ramirez was quoted saying on ESPN.com. "We didn't think it would be two weeks later, but, hey, great. Cris wasn't in a drag-out fight with Aguilera. Physically, he feels fine, so let's go right back at it."

Arreola, 30, a Mexican-American from Riverside, Calif., suffered both of his defeats against superior prizefighters.

A flabby Arreola was battered by WBC heavyweight king Vitali Klitschko en route to a 10th-round TKO loss in September 2009.

Seven months later, the portly pugilist lost to top heavyweight contender Tomasz Adamek by a majority decision.

Arreola has consistently tipped the scales at 250 pounds or more.

Somewhat miraculously, the physical “Nightmare” managed to weight a svelte 234 pounds last Friday when he fought Aguilera.

Arreola is a naturally gifted fighter who has the tools to become a dominant force in the squared circle.

Arreola is also a traditional slob who has routinely disrespected “The Sweet Science.”

Chris Arreola’s success in the ring is strictly dependent upon himself.
