Transfer News: Aston Villa and Tottenham Battle for West Ham's Scott Parker

Aston Villa are reportedly lining up a move for West Ham and England midfielder Scott Parker.

According to this article at Mirror.co.uk, Parker is keen to stay in the Premier League after the Hammers were relegated last season and could be allowed to leave for 5 million.

The 30-year-old is seen by Villa manager Alex McLeish as the ideal man to strengthen his midfield options. With Stewart Downing apparently keen on leaving Villa Park, McLeish will likely want to act quickly to get his man.

But Villa may have to fight Tottenham for his signature. Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is keen on signing the 2010-11 Football Writers Player of the Year, and Parker apparently sees White Hart Lane as his ideal next destination.

That said, according to the Mirror report, Spurs are operating on a sell-before-you-buy basis this summer, which could put Villa in the box seat.
