As if New York Islanders goaltender Rick DiPietro wasn't having a bad enough week. Today, the team announced that DiPietro will miss the next four to six weeks with facial fractures and knee swelling after being one-punched by Brent Johnson of the Pittsburgh Penguins on Wednesday night:
Post-game X-rays came back negative on Wednesday, but according to Newsday's Katie Strang, a CT scan revealed the damage.
After the team's morning skate, DiPietro spoke about the injury.

"It's frustrating, it's unfortunate and every other emotion you can throw in there," he said. "I'm sick of losing, our team's sick of losing. You never go into a fight expecting you're going to get smashed in the face that hard, or with these kind of consequences, but it happens and you move on."
At this point, whatever bad can happen just seems to happen. Not just myself, but the entire team. It's not small groin pulls and you're out a couple days, it's major stuff. It's hips and knees and faces."
Staple noted via Twitter that the goaltender's face looked like "a frozen pizza" this morning.
Now with DiPietro out and another netminder, Nathan Lawson injured with a sprained MCL, the Islanders are currently left with rookie Kevin Poulin and the suspended Evgeni Nabokov as the two healthy goaltenders on the roster at the moment.
Between the serious nature of a facial fracture and the knee swelling that's been an issue for DiPietro in the past, there's reason to believe it might be in the best interest to shut him down for the rest of the year.
