San Diego Chargers WR Legedu Naanee Arrested for Public Intoxication

San Diego Chargers wide receiver Legedu Naanee was arrested in Indianapolis early Saturday morning and charged with public intoxication and resisting arrest, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

According to police, the Chargers wide receiver crossed a taped-off area and walked into an active homicide investigation. Naanee was told by police to turn around or to go in another direction away from the crime scene.

Reports also state Naanee had a "strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on or his breath or person."

Police officers asked Naanee to leave the area numerous times and finally, after several unsuccessful attempts to not comply with officers requests and the use of profane language, he was told he was being placed under arrest.

Naanee then "actively began to pull away" from the officers after being informed he was under arrest. In order to subdue him, police officers used pepper spray and knee strikes, but Naanee continued to resist. He was eventually placed in handcuffs and walked to a police car.

While walking to the police car, Naanee was quoted saying the following to police, "Do you know who I am? I am an NFL player and I'm going to sue your ass."

A police officer was approached by two men, one of which the officer believed may have Naanee's agent, Andrew "Buddy" Baker, and asked that Naanee be released.

"One gentleman told me I was going to ruin his career," the officer said, according to the San Diego Union-Tribune.

Naanee was transported to the Marion County Arrestee Processing Center and released after posting a $150 bond.

This isn't the first time Naanee has been in the news regarding alcohol and trouble.

Back in Decemeber, 2010, Naanee had been a person of interest in regards to a fist fight that took place in a Pacific Beach, CA parking lot that left a man hospitalized. It was believed that Naanee was seen running from the scene, but not directly involved with the fight. Naanee would later be cleared of any wrongdoing.

There is speculation that the Chargers may cut ties with the wide receiver pending a new collective bargaining agreement.

Naanee, 27, has caught 63 passes for 746 yards and three touchdowns since being drafted out of Boise State in the fifth round of the 2007 NFL Draft.
