Puck Previews: Peter Forsberg?s doubts; Sharks vs. Ducks

Here are your Puck Previews: Spotlighting the key games in NHL action, news and views as well as general frivolity. Make sure to stop back here for the nightly Three Stars when the games are finished.

Adrian Dater with the latest on Peter Forsberg's comeback, and it's not all sunshine and rainbows. From Foppa: "If I had to make a decision today, it wouldn't be that positive, because (the pace of play) was quick.  ... "I've just got to keep skating for the next couple of days, and then make a decision very quick." [Denver Post]

Preview: San Jose Sharks at Anaheim Ducks, 10 p.m. ET. Good piece on Brandon McMillan, the rookie getting a good look between Corey Perry and Bobby Ryan until Ryan Getzlaf returns from his sinus cavity fracture surgery. (Yowch.) Fear The Fin explains what's on the line for the Sharks: "The Sharks could make a huge statement with a win; a regulation victory would move them into a tie for second in the Pacific Division and fifth in the Western Conference. Even though most covering the Sharks have focused on the doom-and-gloom lately, it's worth pointing out that the team has earned eleven of the last twelve possible points and sit just three out of fourth place." Preview: New York Islanders at Pittsburgh Penguins, 7 p.m. ET. Your VERSUS game of the night. No Crosby, no Malkin, but the NHL allowed Jordan Staal to play in this one after rescinding his automatic suspension for the match penalty against the Rangers. The Penguins are 13-1-2 in the last 16 meetings against the Islanders, who are 8-15-3 on the road. More from Lighthouse Hockey.

Preview: Vancouver Canucks at Phoenix Coyotes, 9:30 p.m. ET. Roberto Luongo gets the call against the Coyotes, having gone 12-0-5 in his past 17 starts. Meanwhile, BizNasty's goal last night was making headlines as far as Saginaw. As the man himself said: "I haven't seen a knee drop snipe like that since the OG Brett Hull."

Preview:  Detroit Red Wings at Ottawa Senators, 7 p.m. ET. The Red Wings get Danny Cleary back since breaking his ankle on Dec. 26. Pavel Datsyuk is ready to play, but Detroit decided to spare the Senators from his awesomeness. Robin Lehner gets the call for the Sens, attempting to end a seven-game losing streak to the Wings.

Puck Buddy Comment of the Day: From Mike F on ESPN/NHL/NBC:

The only way i would have ESPN is if they do 1 "game of the Week" and that's it. Everything from Attendance to TV ratings have been going up. ESPN did a horrible Job with the NHL and I'm much happier with the Verses coverage. NHL's marketing have been improving but they still need to be at the next level to grab more of the casual fans and TV. As hockey is broadcast now doesn't translate hockey too well. I think the best way is to stop making the left to right camera the main camera. I don't care how HD your TV is, its missing alot of what's going on. I would suggest using a north to south setup like how they have it for NFL games but make that the main camera. Theres too much going on and the camera is too far away for the left to right. Even I as a major hockey fan who's been watching my whole life have trouble seeing things.
