Antonio "Big Foot" Silva will meet Fedor Emelianenko on Saturday February 12th in one of the first two quarterfinal bouts in the Strikeforce World Grand Prix Heavyweight Tournament.
Silva, is not a total unknown to American MMA fans, having fought for EliteXC and winning the EliteXC heavyweight title in the states before joining Strikeforce.
Silva, despite his being a large heavyweight at six feet four inches and 280 pounds holds a black belt in Brazilian jiu jitsu.
Silva's last fight was against Mike Kyle in December of last year. Silva was dropped by Kyle in the first round but recovered to take the fight via second round TKO.
Silva has said that fight taught him to never take an opponent lightly again.
Silva also holds a unanimous decision win over Andrei Arlovski on a Strikeforce card.
His overall record stands at 15-2 with one of those losses coming at the hands of Fabricio Werdum who will compete in the second set of quarterfinal bouts which will take place later this year.
