2011 NBA Mock Draft: Will Kyle Singler Be a Good Fit with San Antonio Spurs?

Many underclassmen will dominate the 2011 NBA Draft. That does not mean that they will pan out better than the seniors who reach the next level. While he would have been better off if he had come out after his junior season, Duke forward Kyle Singler decided to remain in school and return for his senior season with the Blue Devils. He failed to even get the team back to the Elite Eight, and his draft stock has dropped considerably.

Although he struggled at times this past season, Singler was the emotional and athletic leader of the Blue Devils when they cut down the nets the year before. He had more talent around him this year, so his numbers did take a hit. But that does not mean that scouts will forget what he was able to do just one season before.

Singler could provide another tall scoring option for the San Antonio Spurs. He can shoot from the outside, but has just as much value driving to the hoop and scoring or getting to the free throw line. He plays solid defense and since he went to Duke, you know he knows how to flop and sell the charge. He could be a great fit with the Spurs.

Kyle Nelson of Draft Express says that Singler has enough talent to overcome what some scouts may perceive as weaknesses.

"Singler will likely play a similar role as a spot-up shooter at the next level and he has proven to be an outstanding role player for Duke throughout his career," says Nelson. "This season, in particular, he has thrived as a capable and willing passer while turning the ball over a career low 1.9 times per 40 minutes pace adjusted. Similarly, his high energy level, effort, and focus on offense will likely help him overcome some of his athletic deficiencies in the NBA."

Singler would have been a lottery pick in all likelihood a year ago. Coming back may not have worked out as far as moving up the draft boards or even being unable to bring home another national championship to Duke. But Singler will now go to a team where he has a better chance to win right from his rookie season.

Singler would join the Jazz as a rookie, but he would bring a type of presence along that is typically seen from veteran players.
