2011 NFL Mock Draft: How Far Will the Philadelphia Eagles Go to Improve at QB?

2011 NFL Mock Draft Creates Controversy Around CB Jimmy Smith

The Philadelphia Eagles don't need another "character issue" player on their roster. After all, the face of the franchise (for at least one more year) is Michael Vick, who is not exactly considered a Boy Scout.

But Andy Reid and the front office are in the business of winning football games. And if they hope to keep that up, they'll need to add another cornerback to replace Ellis Hobbs, whose career might be over following that neck injury.

They'd like to make a play for Nnamdi Asomugha, Antonio Cromartie, or Ike Taylor--players who are proven NFL corners--but the lockout has kept that from happening and will probably keep them from grabbing one prior to the draft. Fear that they come away with nothing after a truncated offseason will make them draft a corner.

Patrick Peterson and Prince Amukamara are gone, leaving Jimmy Smith as the most athletic defensive back on the market. He's got 4.4 speed and is extremely physical at the line of scrimmage.

His "baggage" is concerning and it will cause him to drop, but Reid--like he did with Vick--might think he can reform Smith, who has two arrests but nothing more serious.
