Fight Video: Heavyweight bombs in ECHL for McNeill, Spencer

This ECHL scrap doesn't go very long, but Florida Everblades enforcer Tim Spencer and South Carolina Stingrays veteran Grant McNeill back plenty of power into it. From the Stingrays' 5-4 win on Friday night:

There were about six seconds when these two were simply punching each other in the face as hard as they could, simultaneously. Which, in our estimation, means the fans got their money's worth out of this fight.

It was the second time these two dropped the gloves this season, the first bout producing a draw.

From the Examiner (pop-up ad warning for its website):

The middle frame of the contest featured another fight starring Everblades' enforcer Tim Spencer. This time the forward took on South Carolina tough guy Grant McNeill. The journeyman McNeill is a rarity in the ECHL, having already reached the NHL and played in three games with the Florida Panthers in 2003. McNeill is regarded as one of minor league hockey's best brawlers. Indeed, while with the Florida Panthers, Grant McNeill's only accrued statistic was five penalty minutes from a fight with former NHL goon Chris Simon. The Spencer-McNeill fight was a dramatic 1 on 1 battle, which saw both combatants drop gloves and land hard shots before separation.

Indeed, McNeill has one NHL fight, and it was against Simon back in 2003 while the current KHL all-star was with the New York Rangers. The Panthers rookie tried to make a name for himself; after being caught off-guard, Simon made him a punching bag:

Not that we don't want things to work out in St. Louis for him, but boy do we miss John Davidson on the mic.
