Aikman confirms split with wife of 10 years

Days before he's set to call his third Super Bowl for FOX, Troy Aikman confirmed on Wednesday that he and his wife of 10 years have split.

People.com first reported the breakup of the Hall of Fame quarterback and his wife, Rhonda. Aikman later confirmed it to the Dallas Morning News:

"This has been a difficult decision for Rhonda and me, but after 10 years of marriage we have decided to separate," he told the newspaper. "We remain deeply committed to our children and respectfully ask that you honor our family's privacy during this period of adjustment."

Records show that Rhonda purchased a five-bedroom home in Dallas in November.

The couple met while Aikman was quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys and Rhonda was a publicity employee. They were married in 2000 and had two daughters together.

During his playing days, Aikman was called "the most eligible bachelor to play in the NFL since Joe Willie Namath hung up his cleats." He said he didn't relish the bachelor life and that he would "rather be married with four kids."
