Video: Justin Pogge fights Penguins, continues descent into insanity

Once upon a time, Justin Pogge was a highly regarded Toronto Maple Leafs goaltending prospect. Now, he's livin' the dream with the Charlotte Checkers of the AHL (Carolina Hurricanes affiliate) and slowly losing his mind.

Here's Pogge in Sunday's game against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins (Pittsburgh Penguins affiliate), as something at the end of the second period persuaded him to take on half the Penguins, take his mask off and fight around a linesman:

Pogge was given a double-minor for roughing and a hearty round of applause from fans of brawlin' goaltenders everywhere. Playing on the edge worked: His 28 saves helped the Checkers win a wild 9-5 game.

From Eric P. at The Wilkes-Blog, who hipped us to this clip:

Robert Bortuzzo simply skated past him, barely brushing his goaltender crease - not even making contact with Pogge himself.  Pogge drops the puck and makes a bee-line straight towards Bortuzzo, and delivers a large push to his upper body. Joe Vitale made his way in, and popped the goalie helmet of Pogge up over his face with a gloved pop-shot.

Pogge would go on in a furious and childish attempt to fight Vitale one-on-one, with the referees attempting to break the altercation up in between them. Pogge still tried throwing some punches, but things would calm down a tiny bit. On his way off of the ice and into the locker room, he skated back towards the Penguins area of the ice and started chirping Tim Wallace.

As crazed as Pogge's reaction was in the clip above, it's not even Pogge at his most insane this AHL season. Remember this meltdown against the Hershey Bears last month?

Please join us next month for another edition of "Jim Henson's Ron Hextall Babies," starring Justin Pogge ...
