Jamine Peterson, NBA Draft Prospect, Joins D-League's Thunderbirds

Jamine Peterson, automatically eligible for the upcoming NBA Draft after leaving after his junior year at Providence College, has been acquired by the NBA D-League's New Mexico Thunderbirds, according to his agent, Mike Naiditch.

The 22-year-old Peterson, a 6-foot-6 forward who led Providence College with 19.6 points and 10.2 rebounds last season on his way to being the only player in the Big East to average a double-double, was dismissed by Providence for "violating team rules" after last season and decided to begin his career overseas in lieu of attempting to enter the NBA Draft.

In July, the combo-forward with an array of highlight-reel moves signed with Kolossos Rhodes in Greece in hopes of improving his game and making good money until the NBA was again an option. Peterson's first taste of professional experience didn't go as planned, however, because he was released just four games into the season as his team got off to a 1-3 start. He had options to play elsewhere in Europe, but didn't feel the risk was worth the possible financial reward.

"Jamine had an eye-opening experience in Greece, where he was expected to play the (power forward or center position)," Naiditch told FanHouse. "Seems like there may have been some miscommunication about his natural position and, with limited time to find a correct fit in Europe, we would be risking a repeat of previous mistakes."

With Europe being a bit of a crapshoot, Peterson decided returning stateside to play in the D-League would be his best bet as it's an opportunity that gives him a chance to play nightly in what many consider the most-scouted basketball league outside of the NBA.
