Video: Sinister bench mischief of Swedish goalie Niklas Svedberg

Niklas Svedberg is a 21-year-old goalie for Brynäs of the Swedish Elite League. He may also be hockey's answer to Loki, Norse God of mischief. Or perhaps the goaltending equivalent of Sean Avery.

His most recent bit of malice occurred last week against MODO defenseman Jens Westins, who was checked into the boards near players' benches. That's when Svedberg, in a sadistic little move, quickly opened the door to the players' bench so Westins would awkwardly crash into the frame:

From Pettersson Bloggar, a Swedish hockey blog (translated): "See how he opens båsdörren AFTER he closed it and he does absolutely NOT because he believes that someone will change, but for it to go to hell for Jens Westin." Yeah ... what he said.

Like we said: The guy's building quite the reputation. Earlier this season, Svedberg instigated an incident with former Tampa Bay Lightning and San Jose Sharks forward Nils Ekman in which he grabbed Ekman's stick from the bench, causing the ex-NHLer to snap with a vicious slash to one of Svedberg's teammates.

We're not solid on this, but we're pretty sure that Svedberg is "Hextall" in Swedish.

Stick-tap to the HF Boards.
