Mike Singletary: 49ers To Hire General Manager Before Finding New Coach

Mike Singletary is out as head coach of the San Francisco 49ers, but finding his replacement isn't the team's top priority.

ESPN's Mike Sando reports that the 49ers are expected to hire a general manager during the offseason before starting its coaching search.

The hiring of a new GM will reportedly be the first major change for a 49ers organization that will look drastically different by the start of the 2011 season.

As Sando indicates, there is widespread belief that San Francisco will institute "sweeping changes for the organization."

Team president Jed York revealed Sunday that current 49ers vice president Trent Baalke would be a candidate for the general manager position, but the search will also include numerous candidates outside of the organization.
