Monday night's game was a terrific illustration of why the Texans are the most lovable and the most loathsome team in the NFL: They're talented enough to play some absolutely thrilling football, but inconsistent, mistake-prone and defensively deficient enough that they just can't win consistently.
If you had to pick just one of those adjectives for what they did Monday night, though, "lovable" is the easy winner. The Giants controlled the Vikings and it looked like the Ravens would easily handle the Texans. The night was looking like a complete loss, to everyone but Giants and Ravens fans.
But something wonderful happened. Matt Schaub found his inner Elway, Andre Johnson put his stamp on the game, Glover Quin played possessed (I love that guy) and Jacoby Jones redeemed himself, all en route to an incredible fourth-quarter comeback. Here's the mini-miracle they put together.
Oh, and here's the soul-crushing end to the fairy tale. That'll let the air out of you.
Still, if you were an uninterested observer, the Texans had already given you more than you had any right to ask for. It looked like another soporific Monday nighter until they somehow turned it into an electrifying Game of the Year candidate. It's zero consolation to them, I'm sure, but the football world thanks you, Houston Texans.
