Video: NFL's roughing the passer rule is officially out of control

This season, Philadelphia Eagles coach Andy Reid has been fond of saying that NFL refs don't protect Michael Vick like they do Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. If he ever sees this clip from Sunday's Washington Redskins-Dallas Cowboys game, Reid may have to add another quarterbacking luminary, Jon Kitna, to the list:

That's a personal foul? What's going to be illegal next? Getting a grass stain on a quarterback's sock? I was bumped into twice as hard this morning by a grandmother while Christmas shopping at Macy's. We need to call AMC and get the network to stage one of those "Intervention" shows with Roger Goodell and the rules committee. Dick Butkus can mediate. I mean, I'm all for protecting quarterbacks, but this is getting ridiculous.

Not that the Redskins had any reason to complain about the call after the game. Washington's frantic fourth-quarter comeback was aided by an equally ticky-tack roughing the passer call on the Cowboys' Anthony Spencer. The subsequent automatic first down helped the Redskins score a touchdown that would end up cutting the lead to eight.
