Arsenal Transfer Rumours: Wenger To Make 25 Million Bid for Sergio Ramos

Arsene Wenger will look to single-handedly diminish Arsenal's defensive woes with a surprise £25 million bid for Real Madrid star Sergio Ramos. The Arsenal manager admitted he is eager to secure the services of a quality defender since defensive leader Thomas Vermaelen has been absent since August with a persistent ankle injury.

Summer signings Sebastien Squillaci and Laurent Koscienly have also struggled to find consistency ensuring Wenger's eagerness to sign a defender in order to conquer Arsenal notorious five-year trophy drought.

Rumours have begun to circulate suggesting Ramos is no longer content at Madrid after reports the Spaniard endured an argument with teammate Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 24-year-old is one of the best defensive players in Europe, Ramos has been a focal point in both the Real Madrid and Spanish national side for a number of years now. The full-back was also an integral part of the Spain's World Cup triumph last year.

Manchester United and Arsenal are rumoured to be the front runners as the former Seville defender looks to depart the Bernabeu. Ramos would be a huge signing for Wenger and would provide the Arsenal back line with immense skill and strength.

Capable of playing on the flanks or as a centre half, Ramos boast sufficient experience and leadership alongside may critics expecting him to thrive in the Premier League. However, Spanish giants Madrid are set to demand over £20 million for their Spanish defender.

Wenger has never spent more than £15 million when acquiring talent, but with the need for a quality defender high as well as the lingering cloud of little silverware, Wenger is set to break the record books and sign Sergio Ramos.
