Video: Stamkos wipes out on penalty shot vs. Penguins

Back-to-back games are tough for any NHL team. So when the Tampa Bay Lightning shutout the Washington Capitals last night 1-0 and then had to face the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight, you could easily expect a bit of a letdown.

Head coach Guy Boucher and co. definitely didn't have what happened during the first period in mind.

For starters, it took just seven seconds from the opening faceoff for Evgeni Malkin to beat Dwayne Roloson and put the Penguins up 1-0:

Pittsburgh would score three more times over the next seven minutes and add a fourth late in the first to finish off an impressive 5-0 period. Roloson was replaced by Dan Ellis after the third Penguins goal and Ellis promptly allowed a goal on the first shot he faced.

The troubles continued for Tampa into the second period as early on, Steven Stamkos was awarded a penalty shot and soon joined Ilya Kovalchuk in the running for the "NHL Blooper of the Year":

Uh, wow. Not quite the spin move FSN Pittsburgh's Bob Errey was expecting.

Tough luck for Stamkos losing an edge and having that happen on the road and in the middle of a blowout. Not quite Kovalchuk'ian with a game on the line, but definitely one of the more memorable gaffes of the season so far.
