Jim Harbaugh: Are The 49ers or Broncos The Better NFL Option?

Jim Harbaugh was pretty coy and focused Monday night with THE question flying all around him; you know, that trivial banter about the San Francisco 49ers, the Denver Broncos and the NFL as his next coaching destination.

If Jim Harbaugh wasn't already the hottest coach on the planet, his surface temperature increased at least 100 degrees with the second half show by his Stanford team and his quarterback—THE quarterback—Andrew Luck.

It was a solid 30-minute job interview, wasn't it? No need for lengthy conversation, just watch the plays, the execution and the results that left Virginia Tech looking like some junior varsity squad.

And there was he, of the toothy grin, on the sidelines taking it all in—John Elway—sporting his Stanford shirt, making goo-goo eyes in the direction of the man he'd like to hire in Denver to resurrect the fortunes of the Broncos, his "other" alma mater.

So if you're asking if Harbaugh is bound for the 49ers or Broncos, let's just say it looks as if the Broncos have someone on the "inside" in this deal.

If you don't think Luck and his coach, the Jovial Jim are NFL ready, perhaps you need to go back and watch that Orange Bowl video again. All you need do is listen to Jon Gruden going ga-ga for Harbaugh. Really, why hire Gruden when you can hire Harbaugh?

Yes, Harbaugh has choices, decisions and even his quarterback admitted after the thumping of Virginia Tech that his coach's decision will "impact" his decision regarding early entry into the NFL draft in a few month. His deadline is Jan. 14.

By then, Harbaugh most likely will have a new team to coach. Would he fit better in San Francisco or Denver?

In Denver, there's the Tebow factor. Would Harbaugh think that Timmy is his guy the way Luck was his guy. Luck looks more like Elway than Tebow does but perhaps Tebow wasn't being "coached up" properly. At least there IS a quarterback of some sort up there in the mountains.

In San Francisco, Alex Smith is laughing over the possibility of his return to the Niners. Could Harbaugh turn Smith's career around? There's certainly more overall talent in 'Frisco than there is in Denver.

But while you scratch your head between California and Colorado, there will be other options for Harbaugh as well. Don't forget the Carolina Panthers sitting there with the first pick and its no secret they're looking for a young talent to coach their team.

Look in the football dictionary under "young coaching talent" and you'll see a picture of Jim Harbaugh.

And that right now is the only clear picture.

Jim Harbaugh has some decisions to make and some opportunities staring him in the face, that is for sure.

It's good to be Jim Harbaugh.
